Syrian Arab Republic Travel Safety Guide

This is not routine travel. The country is under do-not-travel level warnings because of armed conflict, terrorism, kidnapping, arbitrary detention, air strikes, and criminality.

Consular help is extremely limited. Some foreign embassies are suspended or unable to operate normally, so do not assume you can get routine emergency help inside Syria.

Security services have broad powers. Photography, political discussion, and contact with sensitive sites or officials can create serious problems fast.

Road movement can be blocked by checkpoints, military activity, damaged infrastructure, and sudden closures. Plans that look short on a map can fail without notice.

Border rules and overland routes can change quickly. Do not build a trip around improvised crossings or last-minute transit assumptions.

Cash, fuel, communications, and medical support can all be disrupted. Travel only with contingency plans, offline copies, and enough reserves to get stuck safely.
