Lithuania Travel Safety Guide

Lithuania is generally low risk for tourists. Petty theft is the main issue in nightlife or transport areas, not violent crime.

Tap water is safe. If you are crossing into Poland by road, expect possible document checks because border controls can be reintroduced.

Public transport is the simplest way around Vilnius and Kaunas. Bolt is widely used for rides and usually easier than dealing with an unknown street taxi.

Driving standards are mostly familiar to European visitors, but winters can make road and pavement conditions more dangerous than the city itself.

Currency is euro (EUR). Cards and contactless payments are widely accepted, though small cash backup is still sensible for markets or smaller outlets.

Tipping is moderate rather than expected. Rounding up or leaving around 5 to 10 percent is enough if service was good.

Plug types are C and F, standard voltage is 230V. Vilnius feels much more visitor friendly and card based than smaller towns.
